DCR Tech Roadmap Series Event Speakers - September 1, 2004

Robert J. Dowling - During his 15-year tenure as Editor-in-Chief and Publisher of The Hollywood Reporter, the entertainment industry's premier daily trade publication, Robert J. Dowling has emerged as one of the leading authorities and spokesmen on entertainment issues and trends worldwide, including the 2001 terrorist attacks and their effects on the industry.

Mr. Dowling has created and executed a successful business plan to position The Hollywood Reporter as the definitive authority on the fast-changing entertainment industry landscape of the 21st century. He has proven adept at identifying emerging growth areas early, guiding the paper to unparalleled coverage of labor, convergence, new media, international and Hollywood-Washington political issues in addition to its core reporting on the movie, television, cable and video businesses.

He launched The Hollywood Reporter's Web site in 1996, the industry's first real-time, online delivery of entertainment news, pioneered the first regular entertainment coverage devoted to the convergence of traditional entertainment and new media, and started THR-East, an electronically distributed daily edition designed to bring East Coast readers breaking news stories hours before the competition.

Mr. Dowling is Chairman of the Digital Coast Roundtable and sits on the boards of the Hollywood Radio & Television Society (HRTS) and Los Angeles Sports and Entertainment Commission. He is a frequent guest speaker at universities on the major trends in the markets he covers. In 2000 Mr. Dowling was invited to Washington D.C. to brief members of the White House Cabinet on the entertainment industry for the Office of National Drug Control Policy. He has taught a course at UCLA and lectured at USC and Loyola Marymount.

Tyler Goldman - As the head of Business Development, Tyler Goldman is responsible for guiding the corporate growth of Movielink, including all of its strategic partnerships. Tyler's current focus is on developing partnerships to boost the demand for video content over I/P, add value to Movielink's products, and improve the quality of the Movielink service.

Prior to Movielink, Tyler was the Founder and President of Broadband Sports, Inc. (BBS), the leading provider and distributor of proprietary sports content and commerce across digital platforms, including cable, satellite and the Internet. BBS employed over 240 people and was funded by leading venture capital, technology and media companies, including DirecTV and Clear Channel Communications. Prior to BBS, Tyler was one of five members of Steinberg & Moorad, the top sports law firm in the United States, and a corporate attorney at Wilson, Sonsini, Goodrich & Rosati.

Tyler holds an M.B.A. from the Kellogg Graduate School of Business, Northwestern University, where he received the Dean's Award for finishing first in his class, a J.D. from Northwestern University School of Law, Order of the Coif, and a B.A. from Dartmouth College, summa cum laude.

Paul Jensen - As Vice President of Strategic Alliances for Sony Pictures Digital Networks, Paul Jensen is responsible for the overall strategic development of digitally distributed online games for Sony Pictures Entertainment. In addition, Jensen creates and develops relationships with key partners in both the domestic and international markets.

Prior to joining Sony Pictures Digital Networks, Jensen was the business manager for MSN’s online games site Zone.com,.where he created a strategic vision and managed business development for Microsoft’s online games group. During his tenure, he identified, created, launched, and managed two new businesses for the online games group,expanding the revenue streams beyond online advertising. He also successfully worked to launch the first downloadable games business for Microsoft.

Prior to his role as business manager, Jensen was the product planner for Microsoft’s online games group. While in that position, he oversaw Microsoft’s online game product portfolio which included the launch of 17 new games for the company and also managed over 20 external game developers.

Jensen started with Microsoft in 2001 as a business development manager for the online games department, where he was primarily responsible for driving advertising and sponsorship revenue for MSN’s online games group. He developed the groups adver-gaming strategy and created unique and targeted marketing solutions for key accounts in various industries including Daimler-Chrysler, Ford, Radio Shack and Lego.

Prior to Microsoft, Jensen has also worked for leading consumer package goods companies in marketing, sales, and business development. Jensen graduated with a B.A. in Business from Baylor University and received his Masters Degree in Business Administration from Xavier University.

Susan Roberts - Senior Vice President of New Media for Universal Music and Video Distribution (UMVD), the distribution arm of Universal Music Group. In her capacity, Ms. Roberts manages all e-commerce new media and digital initiatives, including online marketing for web-based and traditional music retailers. Ms. Roberts also oversees NetReach, an online grassroots consumer marketing division in charge of promoting Universal artists via message boards, chat rooms, music websites and other avenues targeting specific online audiences.

Additionally, Ms. Roberts works with music retailers to help expand their businesses into the world of digital marketing and distribution. Since joining the Universal Music Group in 2000, Ms. Roberts has developed several programs and marketing initiatives that have been instrumental in furthering UMVD’s position as the industry leader in the distribution of digital music.

Prior to her position at UMVD, Ms Roberts served as the Vice President of Sales for Veon, a broadband interactivity company where she was responsible for all sales and marketing efforts. Ms. Roberts also served as Senior Vice President of Sales & Marketing for Premier Retail Networks in the digital broadcast arena aiding clients to reach targeted audiences in a wide array of online and brick and mortar outlets.

Included in her twenty years of industry experience with companies such as ABC, Republic Pictures, Handleman Company and Media Home Entertainment Ms. Roberts specialized in the sales and marketing of music and video products.
