As chairman, Dowling leads the organization, which will increasingly
focus on Southern California's role in the convergence of technology with media
and entertainment. "While many people feel the Internet bubble is over, it is
really still only beginning. More and more technology and entertainment
companies will coalesce through creative and attractive features that will
serve the interest of the worldwide entertainment consumer," stated Dowling.
"The greater Los Angeles area is home to virtually all facets of this converged
world and the DCR will endeavor to help people understand where the opportunity
lies in this great and growing industry."
The non-profit DCR was established in 1998 to support the growth of
emerging technology and new media companies in the Digital Coast region (San
Diego to Santa Barbara). Membership will be open to executives in the
convergence industries and meet regularly to address issues and exchange
valuable information and to promote the Digital Coast region worldwide. In
addition, the DCR supports community outreach programs through the Digital
Coast Foundation (DCF).
The DCF is developing Arts & Technology workshops with the Los Angeles
Unified School Districts New Media Academies to help integrate art and
technology into high school curricula; assisting industry professionals to
connect with educators called the Digital Coast Educators Forum and assisting
local non-profit organizations such as My Hero that have shared goals and
interests. For more information about Digital Coast Roundtable
