The objectives of the Information Technology Academy is:

  • To provide a rigorous and relevant academic curriculum

  • To develop smaller learning communities for students through the career academy approach.

  • To provide opportunities for students to apply learning with a focus on that particular career strand

  • To establish strong relationships between students and business and industry mentors

  • To offer multiple opportunities for students to earn college credit that is relevant to the career academy

  • To provide internship opportunities

  • To become industry/professional certified in as many areas as possible.


Academies have been shown to improve academic achievement, increase extra-curricular participation, reduce disruptive behavior, increase parental involvement, increase the number of students going on to post-secondary education and improve their persistency rate, produce higher employment and career satisfaction rates among graduates, and create higher job satisfaction for faculty.
