Biography of John Hughes

John Hughes is CEO and founder of Rhythm & Hues Studios. R&H produces character animation and visual effects for feature films, theme park attractions, commercials, music videos and interactive video games. In 1995, R&H won the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects for "Babe," which was also recently named one of the top ten films of the past decade.

At Rhythm & Hues, John Hughes has worked to create a collaborative work environment where creative and technical excellence are nurtured. He is also very active in the support of improving arts education in public schools, and served as a member of the California Superintendent of School's Task Force for the Visual and Performing Arts. Hughes is Chairman of the Education Committee for the Digital Coast Roundtable and serves on several Boards of Directors including the California Alliance for Arts Education (a member of the Kennedy Center Alliance for Arts Education Network), the Entertainment Industry Development Corporation and the Workforce Investment Board.

Since opening its doors in 1987, R&H has grown from a small group of artists with a big dream, to a full service production facility of over 300 artists and staff working projects at the highest levels of the entertainment industry. R&H has won top awards from national and international competitions including the Emmy Awards, the CLIO Awards, The New York Festivals, The International Monitor Awards and Imagina in Monte Carlo. In addition, R&H has been honored with a technical Academy Award for the development of its film scanner, the first of its kind in the industry.

Rhythm & Hues is also well known for its theme park attractions for clients such as Universal, Disney and Imax, while the Commercial Division is a creative home for some of the industry's leading directors, whose work includes such as the recent spots as the Coca Cola Polar Bears, Mazda and Cheeze Its.

Hughes attended the University of Minnesota where he received undergraduate degrees in Economics and Electrical Engineering, as well as a Masters in Electrical Engineering.
