New Media industry represents a vibrant growing
sector in the Digital Coast region.
Most companies are involved in multiple areas of
New Media. The largest concentration of New Media
activity is in content design and development.
Most New Media companies (and their employees) are
relatively young. 81% of the companies were founded
after 1994.
The most popular reasons for locating the New Media
business in the Digital Coast region are that the
founders and employees live there. Quality of life,
access to qualified labor, and other infrastructure
facilities were also rated highly.
The study indicates that the New Media industry
is growing very rapidly. The average employee size
and the average revenues have doubled since 1998,
and more than half of the businesses will need additional
space next year.
While only 10% of the New Media businesses have
a public offering, it accounts for almost half of
the total funding in the Digital Coast New Media
companies. Venture capital and corporate investors
are the other important sources of major funds to
these businesses. |
